About Ki Dō Studio
Ki Dō Studio is the workshop of Colin Flynn.
Every piece begins with wood — carefully chosen for its grain, texture, and spirit.
Colin shapes each element using only traditional hand tools, drawing on both Japanese and Western joinery and design.

The studio’s name, Ki Dō (木道) — “the way of wood” — reflects a philosophy rooted in Zen and Japanese design principles. It is a practice and art of patience and awareness.
I focus on the individual aspects of each piece. Every surface, edge, detail, and proportion is considered. Every joint is designed and laid out intentionally, then cut by hand. More than production furniture, the goal is to create warm, unique, lasting pieces that give the wood a worthy new life. I may start with a design, but the final piece of furniture is always more influenced by the selected wood rather than any initial idea I have in my head. I let the wood guide the design, rather than trying to force pieces of wood into a design. The result is harmony.
